Mortgage Broker Course

Welcome to the Mortgage Broker Course website. We hope you find what you need.

Become a Mortgage Broker

A career as a Mortgage Broker can be rewarding for anyone wanting to work in the Financial Services industry in Australia. As a Mortgage Broker you provide a valuable service to anyone looking to take out a mortgage, whether that be personal clients or business clients, and advise clients on the loans that will best suit their needs – fees and charges, fixed or variable interest rate and a range of other features.

If you have good people skills, as well as the right training of course, you have the potential to earn a good income in this industry. You can also potentially build your own business at some point in the future.

The Financial Services Industry

The Financial Services industry is heavily regulated so you will need to get the right Financial Services Certifications before you start working in the industry. Having said that, the training can be completed full time or part time to suit your circumstances and working in the finance industry can be extremely rewarding in terms of remuneration and job satisfaction. If you have a head for figures and like interacting with people, this could certainly be your industry.

Mortgage Broker Training

ASIC regulates all training requirements within the Financial Services industry in Australia (including the insurance industry), as covered in the RG146 guidelines. Requirements can vary by State, so check with ASIC, but the minimum training required to become a mortgage broker generally includes:

- Certificate IV in Financial Services (Finance and Mortgage Broking). This can also be referred to as the Certificate IV in Mortgage Broking. Course modules include the regulatory framework you would be working in, the economic environment within Australia, understanding the features of mortgage loan products, how to process mortgage applications and the general operation of financial markets and the business environment in Australia.
- Diploma of Financial Services (Finance and Mortgage Broking Management). This can also be referred to as the Diploma in Mortgage Broking. This course expands on the content of the Cert IV in Mortgage Broking and covers more complex areas such as risk assessments and more complex loan structures. If you wish to expand the types of advisory services you offer your clients you will need to complete this Diploma of Financial Services and potentially other Financial Services courses as required by ASIC.
- Commercial Origination Course. This course builds on the previous courses and is intended for Mortgage Brokers who currently work with residential mortgages but wish to offer a more specialised service in commercial finance. The major commercial lenders in Australia will need you to understand things like chattel finance and other features of commercial and business loans before they will provide you with their accreditation.

Becoming a Financial Advisor
Depending on the type of advisory work you want to do you may also need to be licensed as a Financial Advisor. This is particularly the case if your services extend beyond Mortgage Broking into other areas of financial advise such as investment products.

Mortgage Broking as a Career
Whatever your future direction, completing the standard Mortgage Broker Courses mentioned here will get you off to a flying start in this rewarding industry.
